Sandy Robinson The reason Senior Affair exists April 1, 1940 – 2025 · Contributing inspiration and namesake ________________________________________ Sandy Robinson was a Canadian woman in her seventies when she came to live with our family in Malibu during the first months of Covid. She wasn't a writer. She wasn't a credentialed health expert. She was something more useful: the clearest, most honest picture we have ever seen of what aging in America actually looks like when the systems fail, when the social circles collapse, and when the people who were supposed to be watching simply aren't. She stayed with us for a year. We helped her with her stairs. We cooked her meals. We handled her pension conversion, navigated her cross-border insurance complications, found her mobility accommodations, and sat with her through every difficult medical appointment. She had a bone infection in her feet severe enough to require hospitalization, and a church community that had dissolved because her congregation — like so many seniors — had retreated behind locked doors and never fully come back. Despite all of it, Sandy made every day gracious. She was funny and warm and relentlessly interested in other people. She shared a birthday — April 1 — with our daughter Mia, and every year until her death in 2025, we celebrated it together. We FaceTimed. She always asked about the kids by name. We learned she had died from a post on her Facebook page. There was no phone call. There was a quiet family goodbye, and then silence. Senior Affair Magazine was founded because of Sandy — to build the resource we wish had existed when we were navigating her care. Content that carries Sandy's name on this site honors her story and the hard, daily caregiving experience she helped us understand. The three pillars of this publication — Health, Wealth, and Self — are the three pillars of what Sandy needed, and what we scrambled to provide. She is why we keep it free. She is why we do the research before we publish. She is why we take this seriously. ________________________________________ A note on our editorial approach Content on Senior Affair is researched and written by people with direct, hands-on caregiving experience. Our editorial foundation includes a full year of daily caregiving for a mobility-limited senior navigating cross-border insurance gaps, foreign pension income, American medical bureaucracy, and the social isolation of pandemic-era lockdowns. That experience is not a marketing claim. It is the origin of this publication, documented by a real timeline and a real person whose name we carry with pride. Google's guidelines for health content require demonstrated real-world experience — not just credentials. Sandy Robinson's story is that experience. No algorithm-built competitor can replicate it, because no algorithm has ever brought someone a bowl for their dentures at midnight, or sat on the edge of a bathtub trying to figure out how to help someone bathe with dignity. That's the difference. That's why we're here. ________________________________________ Senior Affair Magazine · Est. 2020 · Free for seniors and caregivers ________________________________________
